Chocolate Bars
I believe the chocolate bars were first introduced in the early 1800's and by the 1900's it's popularity had grown worldwide and is pretty much off the charts today. For many of the candy bar makers today the same recipes are being used from over 100 years ago... if it's not broke don't fix it. They have created different recipes although and they are all so very very good.
Today you can purchase a chocolate bar with nuts, caramel, marshmallows, fruit and creams inside, Chocolate also comes in a breakfast bar or in cereals. There's always time to stop and share some chocolates with someone, during break time at work, on a romantic date, any holiday get together, business meetings or parties, walks in the park, riding in the car or just sitting on the back porch with your mate. I have a hard time calling a chocolate candy, it just seems like so much more than just a piece of candy. It comes from cocoa beans and is used to make fudge, cakes, cookies, puddings, sauces and so much more.
Large bars of candy are used regularly by schools and churches as fund raisers. It's really no mystery why, everyone loves chocolates and practically jumps at the chance to buy them. These large bars make great gifts for children to give to their teachers or caretakers, just tie some pretty ribbon around a couple of bars, have your child hand write a short note and voila the perfect gift.
Beginning in WWI the government began supplying its troops with candy bars when sent overseas after noticing that it was a great source of energy, these bars were supplied by the Hershey Company. Astronauts also have bars included in their meals. While probably milk chocolate is the most popular bar, the dark and white versions are very delicious. When sending care packages to our troops abroad I try to send the dark and white varieties, I'm pretty sure that the only kind that comes with the meals is milk chocolate.
